Glossopdale Charities team

Charity Action Team (formerly the Millennium Committee).

This committee of staff and students has achieved a lot since it was convened in 1999. It aims to carry out the Millennium Resolution and make an impact in the college, the community and the world.

It does this by annually;

  • Organising the collection of parcels for Operation Christmas Child
  • Organising an Afternoon Tea for the Elderly in our community.

Each year, it organises fund raising events to raise money for other projects, submitted by students and staff. These include:

  • Selling space in a Valentines Day Student Bulletin
  • Making and selling gifts for Mother’s Day
  • Holding a Sponsored Run each summer, the same length in metres as the year.

We marked the Millennium by completing the following projects;-

    • Encouraged the signing of the Jubilee 200 petition to drop the debt owed by the Developing World to the Developed World.
    • Raised £250 to buy a pump for a well in Burkina Faso in Africa
    • Buried a capsule with the signatures of every student in the college at that time.
    • Purchased two yew trees for the college, grafted from 2000 year old stock
    • Holding our first Afternoon Tea for the Elderly.
    • Organising a working party to clean up part of Glossop.
