Candidate illness during an external examination
College can apply to the examination board for special consideration if illness has affected your performance in an examination. Special consideration candidates will never be given an unfair advantage over other candidates.
College has to apply to the exam board within three days of the examination. The exam board may then compare performance in the illness-affected paper with performance in other papers for the same subject and with your teachers estimated grade. The exam board may then take your illness into account before awarding the exam grade.
To apply for special consideration the examinations officer need your details and details of your illness.
Within two days of the examination provide the officer with a letter stating as much as you can of the following:
- Your name.
- Which exam was affected.
- The nature of your illness.
- How long you have been ill.
- When/If you visited the Doctor.
- What medication you are on, etc.
- Did you take the exam in hospital or the medical room.
- Details if you had to leave the exam to be sick, etc.

Please address the letter to The Examinations Officer and hand it in to the office with your medical note or doctors letter.
