Frequently Asked Questions...
How to make a measurement device using ultrasonic sensor?
The measurement device must be handheld, possibly can be mounted on a robot.
The microcontroller would be PIC.
The measured value must be displayed on a 7 Segment LCD display
Answer:
There are 2 basic types of ultrasonic sensors. The first is a basic ultrasonic transducer which requires a large voltage (>24V) pulse to send the sonic pulse. It then receives the echo response off any nearby objects as a rather small (<50mV) signal.
The other (deluxe) type costs more but integrates a output amplifier, input amplifier and comparator to simplify and improve the processor interface. To obtain the distance to nearest object for either type, the time difference between output and input pulses must be measured and calibrated to speed of sound.
