my hot water in my basin runs fine when i turn the tap on but after a few minuets it slows down?
When i turn the hot water on in my upstairs basin, it runs quite fast but then after a few minuets, slows right down to a trickle. It takes about an hour to fill a bath. This is not on a combi boiler, i have a cold water storage tank in the loft and a cylinder in the airing cupboard. It has been working fine previously but i had a burst pipe on the main and didn't realise and ran the water out in the tank and cylinder. When it was being fixed, there was a massive air lock in the system but it was finally sorted and i am now getting both hot and cold water. but the pressure on the hot is not the same. This problem with the hot tap doesn't seem to happen to the kitchen sink down stairs, it just seems to be upstairs that it tapers off after a few Min's. Has any one got any ideas? Could it be that there is still air in the system? or a blockage?.
Answer:
A couple of things come to mind.
Water may not be turned on fully at the water heater. Let's water pass and build up pressure until you turn the water on, when the water pressure drops it is simply because your supply is lacking. Kitchen sink would not be as noticeable due to he aerator. and 1/4 inch line coming in opposed to the full 1/2 inch line going into the tub.
Hot water tank could be clogged, same effect happens.
If there is air in the line all you need to do to get it out is to open to faucets one on one side of the house and the other on the other side of the house. Let it run until it quits belching.
Another option is if you are on city water the meter may have gotten clogged during repair.
If on well water, water table could be low or pump just about gone.
