There are actually two learning resource centers at Glossopdale staffed by a professional Librarian and an experienced Library Assistant. The LRC's are the resource bases of the college, where materials are selected, processed, housed and managed to reflect the needs of the curriculum, the students and the staff. As well as newspapers, magazines and over 18,000 books, the libraries have computers, all with internet access, CD-ROM’s and printing facilities.

The mission of the learning resource center is to support students and staff in the process of learning, teaching and personal development, and to raise the standards of literacy through encouraging students to gain a love and enjoyment of books and reading. This is achieved through the provision of expert guidance, high quality information collections and related services.

Books can be borrowed by college students and staff. Please ask at either LRC for a membership form. Students may borrow a maximum of 2 books at any one time. The loan period is 2 weeks. Books can be renewed for a further period if necessary. Lost books or damaged books must be paid for.

The Learning Resource Centers are open all day, including breaks and lunchtimes.

Hadfield Site Library

The library at the Hadfield Site is located near to the Science Blocks and provides a service to Year 10’s through to Post 16.It houses a Connexions Resources library for careers information, and 1000’s of fiction and non-fiction books on curriculum and general interest subjects. There are computers available with internet access and printing facilities.

Glossop Site Library

The library at the Glossop Site is located on the lower corridor, at the bottom of the steps by Hall 2 and provides a service to Year 7, 8 & 9, and Post 16 students studying at Talbot House.

Along with the Connexions Resources, we have 1000’s of fiction books and non-fiction books for homework, research and general interest use. Computers with internet access and printing facilities are available for curriculum-based activities. Book a slot in your breaks by asking Mrs Ellyard.

Mrs Nuttall provides help to students and staff with enquiries and research, and ensures best use of resources for class work, homework and coursework.
