Writing A Father Of The Groom Toast

The first few lines of the father of the groom toast are the most difficult lines to write, not the last. The days may drag on but no good introductory line falls on your lap. If you are troubled by the speech you have to write, we have prepared some solutions that could help you. A couple of them are briefly discussed here:

Write the first things that come to your mind – When you're still collecting the concepts you want to include in your speech, don’t shoot down all the ideas that come to your mind. Doing so will encourage more ideas to flow. Only after you’re done with your speech would you start editing it. This is the phase when you will separate brilliant ideas from the not-so-brilliant ones.

Make use of regular English – Many people, in their attempt to create an impression, prefer highfaluting words to daily language. The truth is, big words don’t make any good impression. In fact, these could help you discourage from listening to you. Thus, when writing your speech, it is advisable to stick with regular language.

Have a theme – Avoid condensing all your ideas in one paragraph, don’t discuss too many ideas as well. This could confuse the audience as to the points you are driving at. Instead, use a cohesive theme to gel all your ideas together and whenever necessary, avoid discussing sub-topics.

Write a short speech – Don’t bore your listeners with a long speech. It is always better to have a short speech that keeps your audience interested than a long one that bores them.

Present yourself – The majority of the people in the audience may know you, but there could be some who dont. For the sake of the people who don’t know who you are, briefly introduce yourself. When preparing your speech, this may be skipped but you should remember to say it before you proceed with your speech.

Don’t touch the booze – You may be tempted to drink beer or wine before your speech to help calm your nerves. But no matter how powerful your desire to take a sip, hold it until you're done with your speech. This will make you successfully deliver a speech without you having to slur through it.

Remember the toast – The father of the groom toast gives the father the chance to present a toast to the newlyweds or on their behalf. It is here where you express your best wishes for the newlyweds in a funny or formal one liner.
