12.5.06
Dear Parent/Guardian
I am writing to inform you about the year 11 FAST (Focused Assisted Study Time) sessions which will begin on Monday 22 nd May and continue until Friday 23 rd June.
From Monday 22 nd May the year 11 timetable will be revised to meet the demands of the exam timetable and revision workshops will begin.
The revision workshops have been introduced to provide students with focused and targeted revision before their exams. The revision workshops will revise core knowledge and provide students with exam techniques such as time management, writing a plan before answering a question, etc, these exam techniques can make a huge difference to students’ performance.
We have tried to match revision sessions to the exam timetable. There will be times when students follow their normal timetable however there will be times when students attend a 2 hour revision session for a particular subject. For example, Monday 22.5.06 period 4-5 will be English revision for all students. This will replace option A and option B lessons because students have their English Exam the following morning.
When a final exam has taken place students no longer need to attend revision sessions for that subject. They can either go to another revision session which is on at the same time or use the post 16 study area for private study. Attendance during this revision period isessential. Students will receive targeted revision with input from their specialist teachers, they cannot get this at home and non-attendance could affect their GCSE performance. There will be no registration with tutors or a tutor period during this revision period, registration will take place in revision workshops.
Students do not have to wear school uniform from Monday 22.5.06 and will use the post 16 study area for private study.
Students will be informed about the above in assembly week beginning 15.5.06. They will receive a booklet explaining changes to their timetable on Wednesday 18.5.06 during their tutor period. Every student has received an exam timetable. We would ask that you look at this with them and ensure they are aware of the date, time and location of all their exams. Unfortunately, each year we have a very small number of students who lose out because they attended on the wrong day, time or place for an exam. This is often due to their anxiety or being disorganised. Your support for your son/daughter during this time will be invaluable.
I have enclosed a copy of the information students will receive in their booklet for your information. However, you can also find all the information about exams and the revision sessions on our school website which is www.glossopdale.org
If you have any questions regarding the above please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
D McGloin
Assistant Principal
