THE IMPORTANT ROUTINES
[OR HOW NOT TO MISS OUT ON THE REALLY IMPORTANT THINGS]
We acknowledge you are now a whole lot more grown up and because of that we trust you to look out for those things that affect you. [Not always as easy as it sounds!]
SIGNING IN
Every session you are in college, whichever site you are on, SIGN IN at the ‘Signing In Area’. This tells us who is on site and it gives you the opportunity to check notice-boards and pigeonholes. The Signing In Areas are in the Study Area on Hadfield Site and in the entrance corridor on Talbot Site.
CHECKING NOTICEBOARDS AND PIGEON HOLES
Post 16 students have classes on any of three sites and you are not necessarily in every day. This makes communication just that little bit more difficult. It is very important therefore that you read notices, pick up mail from your pigeon-hole and act on requests, look out for important dates and are generally organised!
ABSENCE
There is a separate leaflet setting out the systems for reporting absences. Make sure you read it. We want to hear from you when you are absent. There are forms to fill in to let us know why you have been away. These will be essential if you are receiving EMA.
CHANGES: the CHANGE OF DETAILS FORM.
Nothing stays the same forever and this is true of your details. If you change address, name, telephone number [including mobile], e-mail address or if you change course or start to bring a car on site or make other changes, then let us know by filling out a CHANGE OF DETAILS FORM. These can be picked up from the Signing In Areas. Let your tutor know as well.
EXAMINATION INFORMATION
At intervals throughout the year you will receive documents via your pigeon hole asking you to confirm your examination entries.
It is important to act on these promptly.
There are always errors and discrepancies; we make thousands of individual exam entries every year and nobody is perfect. You are the most important checking system. Check all slips and if you have any concerns [you have not been entered when you think you ought to have been or you have been entered for Neurochemical Knitting when you don’t do it] go to the EXAMINATIONS OFFICE in P5 at Hadfield and see Julie Wright. She can help you sort out any problems provided you go and see them quickly.
Ultimately it is your responsibility to check your entries so always ask if you are unsure.
HOW YOU COMMUNICATE WITH US
We want to hear from you because you have a different but very important perspective on college life. Use the suggestions box, write for the bulletin, come to the lunchtime meetings with the Principal, speak to your tutor, and represent your fellow students. You should have an influential say in what you and the people following you do and get out of being in our Post 16. Tell us about it!
