ART AND DESIGN
A SUBJECT CHOICE |
GCSE Art and Design courses offer the opportunity to build upon existing skills and abilities. All the courses emphasise the importance of visual awareness, good craft work and the value of personal achievement.
There are three alternative GCSE Art and Design courses to choose from:
- Unendorsed: This course is intended for students who wish to follow a broad course of study in Art and Design. In addition to painting and drawing, students will develop work in the craft of textiles using a variety of techniques which may include hand embroidery, weaving, batik, print, screen printing, soft sculpture, and machine embroidery.
- Three Dimensional Design which is a more specialised course of study that will include drawing, pottery, ceramics or sculpture using a variety of constructional methods and materials.
- Fine Art is also a more specialised, in-depth course of study and concentrates on the development of direct observational skills and imaginative expression using a wide variety of drawing and painting materials.
Coursework and Examination
At the end of the course there will be a 10 hour controlled test: this contributes 40% of the total marks. Coursework accounts for the remaining 60% of the marks.
