
Human Physiology
This is a one-year Human Biology course available to any interested student. Two D grades at GCSE (preferably in Science) are required.
COURSE CONTENTS
There are three main themes:
- Relations between Man, other organisms and the environment.
Includes health of the individual, healthy food and water, population growth, ecology and pollution.
- Organisation and Maintenance of the Individual.
Includes cells, skin, nutrition, digestion, respiration, blood, heart and circulation, excretion, sensitivity, sheletron and homeostasis.
- Reproduction, Growth and Development.
Includes reproduction organs, fertilisation, pregnancy, birth, post-natal growth , cancer and genetics.
The examination consists of one written paper taken at Foundation (F) or Higher (H), and a teacher assessed component.
Foundation paper is 2 hrs (Grade G- C)
Higher paper is 2 hrs (Grade D - A*)
The examination paper carries 80% of the total marks.
The practical assessed component accounts for 20% of the total marks.
CAREER PROSPECTS
This subject is useful for anyone contemplating a career in nursing, pharmacy, teaching, the food industry, environmental health, etc.
Students following the GNVQ course in Health and Social Care would benefit from this course.
