
Chemistry
This is a modular course offered by OCR. AS candidates take units A, B and C.
A2 candidates A, B, C, D, E, and F.
The course is a stimulating mixture of theory and practical work and builds on the chemistry modules studied at GCSE. Students wishing to take the course should have at least a grade CC in Science at GCSE.
COURSE CONTENT
The six units studied are:
A Foundation chemistry
B Organic (carbon) chemistry
C Physical chemistry
D Chains, rings and spectroscopy
E Trends and patterns
F Unifying concepts
Each unit is assessed by an examination of about 1½ hours. The examinations take place in January and June each year. In addition, there are practical skills assessments which contribute around 20% towards the final grade.
