EXPRESSIVE ARTS

A SUBJECT CHOICE

This course is designed to give you experience in studying a range of art forms and exploring the links between them.

There are four main aims to the course. It will help you to…

  • express yourself by developing practical skills and techniques and presenting your work to others
  • develop a better understanding of how different art forms can link together in different ways
  • experience and appreciate a range of different arts works from different times, places and cultures
  • develop important personal qualities of imagination, intuition, exploration and analytical skills by creating art forms either as an individual or as part of a group

You are required to study two different art forms, choosing from:

  • dance
  • drama
  • music
  • verbal arts (poetry, prose, song lyrics)
  • moving image (video-based work)
  • visual arts

You will learn to produce work that combines at least two art forms in an integrated way. For example: a short film could integrate music and moving image; a song integrates music and verbal arts; a performance piece can integrate costume (textiles) and drama or dance; poetry can be integrated with movement or visual art work. The possibilities are almost endless.

This course will be challenging, stimulating and enjoyable!
