FOOD TECHNOLOGY

A SUBJECT CHOICE

Food Technology is a course for students who enjoy working with food as a material, and want to improve and widen their skills. Food Technology allows you to explore a variety of designing and making activities. This will include the use of ICT and Computer aided design packages, investigating and experimenting with food, creating new food products using imagination and flair. The Department has a comprehensive range of computers and software, which you will be encouraged to use as often as possible.

A large part of Food Technology is practical based; you will be required to complete a number of practical activities, especially in the Product Development Coursework, which represents 60% of your GCSE. The Coursework is a single project where you will be expected to be imaginative, creative and develop a variety of skills and techniques.

There is a single written paper at the end of the course, which represents 40% of the GCSE.

Food Technology is suitable for all students but should not be regarded as an ‘easy’ option. A successful student in this subject needs to be enthusiastic, creative, and imaginative, committed and enjoy working with food and ICT.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact any member of the Food Technology Department.
