
Health & Social Care GNVQ
This is an ideal qualification if you want a background in and an understanding of the important health and social care employment sector. Success at this level may also allow you to progress onto the Advanced course. The Intermediate award provides you with:
a broad background of understanding and core knowledge
a student centred approach to learning
the opportunity to apply knowledge of the health and social care sectors in a practical way
knowledge of the key components and functions of the health and social care sectors
an opportunity to study the structure of the National Health Service, its importance to the UK, and the positive and negative impacts
an understanding of the importance of health, fitness and exercise
For the award of an Intermediate GNVQ, you must complete six Units. The table below gives you some idea of the scope of these Units.

Unit 2 Promoting Health and Well-being
Unit 3 Understanding Personal Development
Depending on whether you want to specialise in health or care you choose one of the following two Units
Unit 7 Community Care and Support

Unit 10 Introduction to Human Body Systems

Unit 4 Nutrition and Food Hygiene
Unit 5 Basic First Aid and Safety
Unit 6 Working with Elderly People and Clients with Special Needs
Unit 8 The Development and Care of Children
Unit 9 Creative Activities for Health and Well-being
An Intermediate GNVQ is worth 4 GCSEs.
