If you enjoy music of any type and have an interest in it, then you should consider choosing Music GCSE. You need to be able to sing or play an instrument and the course involves composing, performing and detailed listening. Throughout the course there are many opportunities to use computers, particularly for music composition. The course is for all abilities and is assessed as follows:
There are four areas of study:
Performing:Students will perform three pieces, one of which must be a solo and another must be that of a composition they have written themselves during the course. One of their performances must also be as part of an ensemble. Composition: Students will compose two pieces of music, both of which relate to one of the areas of study outlined above. Listening and Appraising: Students will respond to music from a variety of styles and traditions across all four areas of study.
