Edexcel’s new GCE in Performing Arts gives students an understanding of all aspects of performing arts and combines it with the opportunity to specialise in either performance or production support.
While developing their own skills, students will simultaneously gain insights into the nature of the industry. Current employment opportunities, constraints and the issues facing professionals working within the performing arts sector are all reflected in the course.
The qualification encourages talent by offering a genuinely practical approach. There are no written exams, and assessment is solely through portfolio and performance, which are internally assessed and externally moderated.
The vocational emphasis of this qualification encourages students to apply working methods used by professionals – as individuals, in teams, and with clients, commissioners and audiences.
Course structure
The qualification has an AS/A2 structure. It can take the form of:

Progression
The Edexcel GCE in Performing Arts qualifies for UCAS points. It gives students a wide choice of progression options into further study, training or relevant employment.
Students who successfully complete the qualification will be well equipped to move onto degrees or BTEC Higher National Diplomas in Performing Arts.
