RESISTANT MATERIALS A SUBJECT CHOICE

 

Using a range of materials, this subject is aimed at making projects to meet a real need.

Skills and Knowledge Developed during the Course

You will be involved in:

• design using creative talents
• research using the library, shops and catalogues
• planning the making (technical graphics)
• using equipment safely (tools and machinery)
• using materials safely (wood, metal, plastic).

Project Work

Through the production of a project, you will carry out research and evaluation techniques leading to a final design and then use evaluation methods to review the value of your work.

In Year 10 you will make 2 projects:

1. A ball-bearing game in wood and plastic
2. An electric clock in plastic and wood

In Year 11 you will make one major piece of coursework decided by the examination board. Coursework accounts for 60% of the total marks.
