SCIENCE
A COMPULSORY SUBJECT
All students study a co-ordinated Science course that leads to the award of a double GCSE (two GCSE grades).
The course consists of 3 biology, 3 chemistry and 3 physics units in both Years 10 and 11. Each unit has duration of about 3 weeks. There is a test at the end of each unit and some units contain investigations (coursework). Your progress will be monitored using these assessments.
The final GCSE grade in Science is made up of the following parts: investigations (20%); an examination taken at the end of year 10 (25%); a second examination taken at the end of year 11 (55%). The examinations can be entered at either Foundation (F) or Higher (H) level. Foundation level covers grades C to G whilst Higher level covers grades A* to D.
The science course requires you to take an active part in your learning and provides plenty of opportunities for practical work.
